Each of my Heirloom Santas is hand-crafted using vintage or recycled materials, heirloom fabrics or quilts. This process ensures that no two Santas are ever alike.
The Santas all have unique personalities because each face is individually sculpted; no molds are used in the process. Beards are made from natural materials such as sheared sheep’s wool, alpaca and mohair.
Santas are built on a Corian® base that is then signed and numbered in sequence as each one is completed. During the year 2011, Santa number 1,300 was designed and created. Thirteen hundred unique faces and one-of-a-kind outfits have been crafted by hand.
The Santas start at about 20 inches in height, although it’s not uncommon to have them reach more than three feet tall. I don’t use patterns for their costumes, instead cutting apart and transforming vintage and recycled materials into capes, coats and toy sacks.
